Welcome to Behind the Scenes.” This monthly, online column provides members with a backstage pass to see what CAMFT is doing to serve our members and how we are working to ensure that the interests of LMFTs and MFT Interns and Trainees are being served.
CAMFT Staff participated in 9 meetings with Department of
Managed Health Care, California Coalition of Mental Health, Irregulars, BBS
Policy and Advocacy
Committee, and Consortiums in Los Angeles, Central Coast, Orange County,
San Diego, and Imperial County. It is critical for CAMFT to have a place at the
table with other mental health professionals and regulatory bodies. These meetings
will always be a high priority.
CAMFT Legal Staff responded to over 2,060 calls from members with
questions on legal, ethical and licensure issues. Access to this expert, legal guidance
is one of the most beneficial and popular member benefits.
Over 13,760 people visited the CounselingCalifornia.com website with
11,350 of those being unique visitors. There were hits to 2,740
different therapist profiles and 23,258 total page views. The newly re-designed CounselingCalifornia.com
marketing tool is available to all members for
the purpose of promoting services to the public. Createyour profile now .
CAMFT Staff submitted 2 advocacy letters to:
- Governor Jerry Brown, urging him to sign AB
1808 which would allow
MFT Trainees working under supervision to treat minors
U.S. Department of Labor’s Standard Occupational Classification Policy
Committee, addressing issues regarding the description of “marriage and
family therapist” in the 2018 Standard Occupational Classification
CAMFT consistently interacts with key legislators to reinforce how proposed
legislation, regulation, or other actions may be beneficial or
harmful to LMFTs and MFT Interns and Trainees. Advocacy is a cornerstone
commitment to members.
CAMFT Staff engaged over 2,400 members in response to 1 grassroots
campaign successfully persuading Governor Jerry Brown to sign AB
1863 which adds Marriage and Family Therapists as providers at Federally
Qualified Health Centers and
Rural Health Clinics. Grassroots campaigns are an effective advocacy tool for
legislators and government officials to hear directly from CAMFT members on
a specific issue.
CAMFT Staff and lobbyists attended 2 receptions for State Assembly Member Holden
and US Representative Thompson. The goal of the CAMFT PAC is to ensure that
Marriage and Family Therapist-friendly candidates and incumbents from both political
get elected to the California legislature. We support
candidates who have demonstrated an understanding and willingness to fight

CAMFT Board participated in 1 Chapter meeting: Redwood
Board and Staff made presentations at 1 School and 2 Chapters: Pepperdine
University West Los Angeles Campus, and San Fernando Valley and San iego. Chapter
meetings are a prime opportunity for CAMFT leadership and staff to hear directly

CAMFT Staff presented Law and Ethics seminars at 1 Chapter, 1 school
and 1 agency: San Diego, Southern California Seminary, and Riverside University Health
System. The law and ethics seminar is a valuable training tool that gets consistently
positive response from MFTs and other participants.
The CAMFT Ethics, Finance, Public Outreach, and Political Action Committees

The CAMFT Board of Directors met on September 24-25, 2016, in San
Francisco. The Board hosted a reception for the San Francisco and Marin County Chapter
