Scholarships and Grant Applications

Educational Foundation Scholarship

The CAMFT Educational Foundation Scholarship provides financial assistance to a person who exhibits the following:

  • Is participating in advanced training or an unpaid internship within the field of marriage and family therapy.
  • Has demonstrated financial need.
  • Has demonstrated a commitment to the profession of marriage and family therapy - membership in CAMFT is one indicia of commitment.

Ronald D. Lunceford Scholarship 

This scholarship honors the memory of Ronald D. Lunceford by providing financial assistance to a person who exhibits the following:

  • Member of an ethnic or racial minority.
  • Enrolled in an approved or accredited program leading to a degree which meets the requirements of Sections 4980.37, 4980.40, and 4980.41 of the Business and professions code, OR pursuing an advanced degree or certification beyond the qualifying degree for the license.
  • Is in good academic standing and has demonstrated a high degree of academic achievement.
  • Has demonstrated financial need.
  • Participates actively in community and civic events.
  • Has demonstrated a commitment to the profession of marriage and family therapy (membership in CAMFT is one indicia of commitment.

Scott Hamilton and Frank Galassi Scholarship

This scholarship honors the memory of Frank Galassi and his partner of 30 years, Scott Hamilton by providing financial assistance to a person who exhibits the following:

  • Enrolled in an approved or accredited program leading to a degree which meets the requirements of Sections 4980.37, 4980.40, and 4980.41 of the Business and professions code, OR pursuing an advanced degree or certification beyond the qualifying degree for the license.
  • Is in good academic standing and has demonstrated a high degree of academic achievement.
  • Has demonstrated financial need.
  • Participates actively in LGBTQ+ community and/or civic events.
  • Has demonstrated a commitment to the profession of marriage and family therapy (membership in CAMFT is one indicia of commitment) and intends to work with the LGBTQ+ Community upon licensure.

Gerry Grossman Scholarship

To honor and support the work on MFTs who work with children, Gerry Grossman has set up a Fund for a qualified applicant who meets the following criteria to receive the scholarship:

  • A pre-graduate student enrolled in a Marriage and Family Therapy ("MFT") program including an MFT Trainee; or
  • An individual who has graduated from an MFT graduate program and who has or intends to apply for the Associate Marriage and Family Therapist Registration with the Board of Behavioral Sciences; or
  • An Associate Marriage and Family Therapist ("AMFT") registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences; AND
  • Who provides or intends to provide mental health treatment for children residing in California from birth up to age 10 pursuant to the criteria and policies of the Foundation.

Clinton E. Phillips Scholarship 

The Educational Foundation Scholarship commemorating Clinton E. Phillips honors his memory by providing financial assistance to a person who has demonstrated the following:

  • Enrolled in an approved or accredited program leading to a degree which meets the requirements of Sections 4980.37, 4980.40, and 4980.41 of the Business and professions code, OR
  • Pursuing an advanced degree or certification beyond the qualifying degree for the license, AND
  • Is in good academic standing and has demonstrated a high degree of academic achievement.
  • Has demonstrated financial need.
  • Participates actively in community and civic events.
  • Has demonstrated a commitment to the profession of marriage and family therapy - membership in CAMFT is one indicia of commitment.

Educational Foundation Grant 

The Educational Foundation Grant is designed for licensed or pre-licensed individuals in the field of marriage and family therapy who either individually or as a group need financial assistance to engage in a project or activity which will enhance the knowledge, skills and abilities of members of the profession, including but not limited to:

  • A training event.
  • A collaborative event with a university or group of clinicians.
  • A research project.

Applicants are encouraged (but not required) to collaborate with other entities and sources of funding, so that the CAMFT Educational Foundation funds are used to leverage other grants, if appropriate. This grant is intended to provide a benefit to the profession and is not intended for personal gain or benefit. "
