Error on the Current LMFT Examination Candidate Handbooks
Members have indicated to CAMFT that they have received an Examination Candidate Handbook with a sticker on the back indicating that they are able to test for the current examinations (the Standard Written Exam or the Clinical Vignette exam) before a particular date that is after January 1, 2016. (Click here for an example.) This information was clearly confusing to applicants since per the regulations, the BBS cannot administer the current exams (the Standard Written Exam or the Clinical Vignette exam) to any applicant for licensure after January 1, 2016 – there are no exceptions. Given the confusion, CAMFT reached out to the BBS for clarification. According to the BBS, the Examination Candidate Handbooks that were mailed to candidates eligible to take the licensing exams before January 1, 2016, included a predetermined eligibility date under the current exam structure. However, the BBS indicates, none of the currently eligible LMFT or LCSW candidates will be able to take the current examinations after January 1, 2016. Therefore, applicants who have received an Examination Candidate Handbook with an eligibility date that extends after January 1, 2016 should be aware that the last date they may take either the Standard Written Exam or the Clinical Vignette Exam is November 30, 2015.
