The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services instituted a Final Rule related to the screening and enrollment of all network providers (CMS-2390-F). The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) subsequently sent out an All Plan Letter (APL 17-019) to Managed Care Plans requiring providers within their networks to apply to become Medi-Cal providers. The deadline to apply is December 31, 2018.

Medi-Cal’s Provider Application and Validation for Enrollment (PAVE) is an automated, online resource to enroll Medi-Cal providers who currently enroll through the Provider Enrollment Division. PAVE 3.0 was released in September for additional provider types, including Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists. PAVE has more than 15,000 registered users. Dates, details, and registration information for future provider trainings will be posted on the Pave Webpage as it becomes available. For tips on how to fill-out the application, please visit CAMFT’s website to read Sara Jasper’s article titled, “Fee-For-Service Medi-Cal Provider Enrollment Application Tips!”

LMFT providers who are applying to be a Medi-Cal provider or renewing their Medi-Cal provider applications do not have to pay the Provider Enrollment Fee. When completing the enrollment application, under “Medi-Cal Application Fee,” providers should check the box next to “I am requesting enrollment as an individual non-physician practitioner.” Physician and non-physician practitioner groups, as well as individuals, including LMFTs, are not to be subject to the application fee requirements of Title 42, Code of Federal Regulations Section 455.460, as Medicaid applicants.
