The workshop will be a dynamic mix of didactic learning, interactive opportunities, and real client presentations. Part I will include a comprehensive overview of the neuroscience and practical application of psychopharmacology. Basic biochemistry, neural circuits, neuroanatomy will be discussed in detail especially in relationship to psychotropic medication. The most widely prescribed medications will be explored regarding doses, risk/benefit profiles, side effect profiles, and specific targets of symptom management. Medical monitoring of medication including laboratory follow up will be addressed.
Part II of the presentation focus on practical application especially in terms of Co-Occurring Disorders. A review of the benefits for an integrative approach to care incorporate discussions of the role of psychotropic medication in holistic healing. The workshop will embrace the importance of healing on all levels of body, mind and spirit to offer help to these complicated and challenging disorders.
