Dr. Dana McNeil is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and founder of TheRelationship Place. Dr. Dana’s practice specializes in couples’ therapy and utilizes an evidence-based type of couples’ therapy known as the Gottman Method. Dr. Dana is a certified Gottman Method therapist and Bringing Home Baby instructor. She also leads training at the Gottman Institute to help clinicians master the art of couples therapy.

Dr. Dana works with all types of relationship issues, from pre-marital counseling, dealing with the aftermath of extramarital affairs, partners working through addiction recovery, the military deployed families, parents of special needs children, LGBTQ+ partners, and polyamorous/ethical non-monogamy clients.

Workshop Description:

Attend this webinar to learn from a Certified Gottman Therapist how to take leadership in your interactions, bring the right attitude, and find the right attunement with couples who escalate in session. In addition, learn how to mentally prepare yourself for the potential for couples to have outbursts and engage in verbal attacks while increasing your confidence in your ability to gain control of the room and restore peace.

Evaluate tools and interventions that will help you gain knowledge and options to use with couples who get overwhelmed and devolve into criticism and contempt. Find your voice in the room so that you can become the therapist couples learn from and respect.


Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will learn how to recognize the warning signs when clients are becoming flooded and tools to help couples understand the value of practicing self-soothing.
  2. Participants will evaluate interventions from the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy that you can use to help clients remain calm by learning to ask for their needs versus attacking or criticizing their partner.
  3. Participants will recognize what is happening in their bodies when faced with conflict and learn self-care techniques to lower their anxiety.
  4. Participants will integrate new techniques into their attune with the individual partners and your couple client.
