Restoring the Wisdom of the Nervous System: Healing Trauma Through the Lens of Brainspotting
Saturday | May 6, 2023
3:30 pm - 5:00 pm
(1.5 CEs)

Workshop Description:

With brain-body treatment methods, there's a compelling opportunity to build somatic awareness and to regulate the nervous system. Brainspotting is a cutting-edge technique pioneered by David Grand, Ph.D., combining the power of neurobiological and relational attunement to address trauma and a wide range of mental health concerns.

In this workshop, the history of Brainspotting will be discussed, along with a demonstration to illuminate this regulating healing method. Talk therapy engages the neocortex—our thinking, conscious brain—while somatic therapy accesses the subcortical system where trauma gets stored. Brainspotting harnesses the brain's natural healing process by utilizing the visual field to accelerate healing and help clients regulate their nervous system more efficiently.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to compare and contrast regulation versus dysregulation.
  2. Participants will identify and understand the history of Brainspotting.
  3. Participants will name three differences between traditional talk therapy and Brainspotting.
  4. Participants will be able to differentiate between the neocortex and the subcortex.
