CAMFT has been made aware of fraud scams targeting the MFT community once again. In the scam, scam artists identify themselves as Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) or BBS staff members or investigators and notify the licensee/registrant that they are under investigation, that their license/registration may be suspended, or that an arrest warrant has been issued in the licensee’s/registrant’s name. There is a demand for money. DCA and BBS staff members or investigators will never contact licensees/registrants demanding money or payment of any form or personalized information without conducting an official investigation or inquiry. If you receive such a call, refuse payment and contact the DCA directly at (800) 952-5210 to inquire if an official investigation is being conducted. Additional information is available on the DCA website at Fraud Scam Alert.
