My name is Dae’Jah Foster (she/her), and I’m an Associate Marriage & Family Therapist. Over the years, I’ve served in different and diverse communities in various ways. I’ve served as a registered behavioral technician working with children with autism and developmental delays. I’ve served as an academic tutor to students in primary, secondary, and higher education studies as well as been a teacher and activities coordinator to middle and high school scholars. After serving in the education setting, I began serving in the mental health profession. I’ve gained experience being a clinical care coordinator, STRTP residential director, senior clinical case manager, and clinician for people of all ages in school, facility, and field-based settings. I’ve earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (minor in Early Childhood Education), a Master of Arts in Urban Education, and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology.
As a pre-licensed clinician working to become licensed, I know the mental health field is ever-evolving and feel that upcoming clinicians should be a part of helping the field continue to thrive among the changes. This is due to not only to my faith in mental health as a provider, but as a receiver of mental health services and connections with wonderful diverse clinicians-licensed and pre-licensed alike. I’ve been a member of CAMFT (main organization and local chapters) since 2022 and been able to depend on CAMFT to be responsive, helpful, dependable, and informative. I’ve attended trainings, workshops, and events to network and learn from the articles, libraries, attorneys, and clinicians associated with CAMFT.
If elected as pre-licensed clinical director at large, I aim to continue to be a leader who takes direction based on feedback and informed knowledge and be willing to learn to advocate for myself and other therapists. Not only do I plan to bring my sunshine spirit, I’ll demonstrate my skills as being organized, detailed, efficient, creative, innovative, assertive, flexible, attentive, passionate, dependable, reliable, and communicative. I’m calm under pressure, adaptable, and good with customer service.
As I consider the CAMFT strategic framework, I’ll begin with getting acclimated to the position through networking, building strong connections, and learning how to best support pre-licensed persons. I plan to reduce any barriers by advocating for increased mental health services, healthy and helpful internships, and reducing stigma around care for providers and clients/ communities. My five-year vision for CAMFT would be to advertise and market for more marriage and family therapists with increased awareness and notice to important work we do. Additionally, I envision CAMFT having a virtual platform that is a one-stop shop for mental health services for each local organization. For example, having job and therapist searches, key community resources, legal connections, and more in one place would help to eliminate the barriers of navigating multiple websites for help.
In conclusion, I feel my experience, education, and willingness will allow me to serve as the elected CAMFT Pre-licensed Director- A- Large. Thank you for your consideration and support!
