Board Highlights September 2024

The following notes highlight discussion and action from CAMFT Board of Directors meeting, September 20-22, 2024 in Napa, CA.

Chapter to Chapter Reception:
The CAMFT Board invited Board and local members of the San Francisco, East Bay, Marin County and Redwood Empire chapters to an informal reception.  These gatherings allow greater interaction from members at the local level with the CAMFT Board.

Financial Report:
The Board reviewed the July 2024 financial report including expenses and revenue. Additionally, the Board approved a motion to revise CAMFT’s Investment Policy to remove restrictions on limited partnerships or private REITS and to add the ability to invest in alternative assets.  The Board discussed how to ensure sound environmental and social investment options.

Strategic Priorities Update:
The Board received an update on CAMFT’s strategic priorities.  To date, CAMFT has achieved its metric for Goal #1:  Advocacy, related to Medicare, PAC Contributions, License Portability and National Exam, and achieved a portion of the metrics for Goal #2: Marketing and Membership, related to gauging public awareness and preference for MFTs and developing a new compelling product or service. CAMFT is on track to achieve all remaining strategic metrics within the planned timeline.  The Board was also informed of CAMFT’s DEI and Anti-Harassment training for volunteers.

Strategic Plan 2025-2027:
The Board discussed the proposed strategic plan for 2025-2027 as developed at the Board’s strategic plan retreat. The proposed plan would prioritize practice success, technology integration, advocacy and awareness.  The Board continues its work on the plan, and a draft will be presented to the membership for feedback prior to adoption.

Bylaws Amendment Process:
The Board reviewed and provided feedback on the first draft of proposed bylaws changes to the Bylaws Committee.  The Board emphasized the importance of communication and transparency strategies to gather member feedback.  It was noted that the bylaws amendment process will take 1-2 years and there will be ample opportunity for members to provide feedback for the Board’s consideration before changes are put before the membership for a final vote.

Therapist Magazine:
The Board also voted to transition The Therapist magazine to a digital-only format by the end of 2025, with cost savings invested in other member valued services.  CAMFT discussed the enhancements that will modernize the updated digital version of the magazine.

 Legislator of the Year:
The Board voted to approve Matt Haney as State Legislator of the Year.

The next Board meeting will be held on December 6-8 in Santa Monica, CA.
