Dear Members,
Last Saturday, CAMFT hosted the Chapter Leadership Conference (CLC), and I left the event with the key takeaway that CAMFT is about community. I was overwhelmed by the many ways chapters are making positive connections, locally and statewide. From supporting one-another through special interest activities like book clubs and hiking, to getting involved with the public through social justice initiatives and volunteerism, CAMFT is about community. I’d like to share a few ways for you to engage with your CAMFT community in the coming months.
First, it is election season, and a great way to exercise your right as members is to vote! Now is the time for you to help identify our 2023-24 Leadership Team. Ballots will be arriving mid-February. Click here to view the current slate of candidates. Election time is also a time for members to consider the myriad of ways to get involved. Consider applying to serve on one of CAMFT’s 19 Committees. Click here to learn more.
Second, you can also help CAMFT bolster our efforts in environmental sustainability by voting electronically. If you have not yet "Gone Green" with CAMFT, just follow the instructions on your paper ballot to receive future membership communications electronically.
Next, connect with CAMFT and AAMFT staff for our license portability webinar, taking place on February 23rd. We know continuity of care is important, and telehealth across state lines makes things, well… complicated. Learn about state compacts and our strategy to approach this challenge for MFTs. Click here to register for this free member event that offers 1 CE hour.
Then, consider connecting in-person for the Annual Conference, taking place May 5-6 in Santa Clara! This is the place where CAMFT supports you with best practices, knowledge sharing, peer connection and inspiration. Registration will open Monday, February 13th, so check your email for details.
My hope is that you are able to take advantage, get involved, and stay connected with your CAMFT community!
Finally, it is not lost on me that as I write about community, many of our communities are suffering. From the fatal beating of Tyre Nichols to the horrific shooting in Monterrey Park that directly affected our AAPI community, to yet another mass shooting, this time in Half Moon Bay, events like these are becoming far too common. For those directly or closely connected to the tragedy, the trauma is personal and life changing. Member resources focused on racial trauma can be found here. With our strong sense of community, MFTs are there to help guide, with compassion and support, those impacted during times of crisis. MFTs help individuals and communities heal. Thank you for all you do.
With care, Joy Alafia, MBA, CAE Executive Director
The goal of the CAMFT PACs is to assist in electing and re-electing candidates from both political parties to the California legislature and U.S. Congress who demonstrate an understanding and willingness to be supportive on the issues most important to marriage and family therapists.
It is critical to ensure that legislators who understand the issues related to marriage and family therapists are elected and re-elected.
