Dear Members,
I’m writing this en route to our trailblazing Fall Symposium in Pasadena. I’m looking forward to seeing many of you there! The Board of Directors will also be meeting this weekend to move CAMFT’s vision forward with our current strategic plan. We are making great strides in key areas of advocacy, membership and marketing, and technology.
In the latter arena, CAMFT is not the only entity with an eye on technology’s impact on the profession. The BBS is seeking assistance with the Governor’s Executive Order (N-16-22) Strengthening The Commitment to a “California for All”, by inviting MFTs to take a 3 to 5 minute anonymous survey. The survey will be open until September 13, 2023.
Medicare is yet another key strategic initiative for CAMFT. Have you been thinking about treating Medicare clients? In about three months, MFTs will be eligible to be reimbursed by Medicare – which might be a game changer for some of you!
We’ve been hard at work making this transition as seamless as possible. Our Medicare Corner resource center is now live and updated frequently, so be sure to check this page often. We’ll be offering a series of Medicare webinars over the coming weeks, beginning with Deciding Whether to Become a Medicare Provider hosted by staff attorney Sara Jasper on September 27th.
Even if you aren’t planning on becoming a Medicare provider, you’ll still need to opt out! You can find information on how to submit the proper opt-out paperwork here.
For those of you more interested in supervising than taking on new clients, now is a great time to sign up for the in-person Supervision Workshop in Costa Mesa on October 13-14. We’re packing in 15 CE credits in a single weekend, and you’ll get a chance to network exclusively with fellow supervisors! Learn more and register for the event here.
I’d also like to invite you to get involved with CAMFT, and we have two current ways to do so. First, if you are someone who loves organizational legalities and corporate codes, have a general interest in governance and association policies, we’re looking for someone just like you to join our Policies Task Force as a Member-at-Large. Please click here for more details. Applications are due by 5 pm on September 15th. Next, I invite those members interested in helping to set the course for the organization to consider joining our Board of Directors. Nominations are being accepted for the 2024 election. The deadline to apply is October 27th.
There are so many meaningful ways to get involved with CAMFT and further your career as an MFT. I hope you’ll join us online and in person for our upcoming Medicare webinars, Chapter events, and supervision workshop. Or throw your hat in the ring to become a future board member!
With care, Joy Alafia, MBA, CAE Executive Director
