CANDIDATE FOR ClINICAL DIRECTOR-AT-LARGE

Maureen Houtz, LMFT

I currently serve on the CAMFT board as a Clinical Director at Large and  am happy to be considered once again for the same position. 

I am a licensed MFT since 1986 and have taught at the university level, supervised associates, directed a counseling center, served as a subject matter expert with the BBS and conducted many therapy sessions. I believe it’s an honor and a privilege to walk along side those that trust me to listen, educate and guide.

I believe CAMFT is in the most capable of hands. Our executive director has done a stellar job navigating through the COVID pandemic. The staff at CAMFT has held together well despite being virtual, handling many, many legal inquiries while increasing the overall membership of the organization.

In addition the team has worked diligently to pursue and achieve a change in the scope of practice bill that was signed by Governor Newsom this past fall. SB 801 more fully describes the breadth and depth of the work we already do.

It is an exciting time to be a therapist and to be on the board of directors. The values of integrity, accountability, transparency, inclusiveness and collaboration are the guiding principles that undergird the behavior and actions of the board. We are an involved and passionate group of clinicians who want what is best for our profession.

In the next season, the board will be continuing to advance the profession of Marriage and Family Therapy, increase the participation of the pre licensed members, be a liaison and coach  to the local chapters and be the loudest voice for mental health advocacy  in California.
