Dear Members,
As 2023 comes to a close, I feel proud of our achievements this year. We’ve made a lot of headway toward our strategic goals, began meaningful work with a DEI consultant, hosted engaging member events, educated regulatory agencies on how to effectively include MFTs in Medicare, and executed a successful asset management strategy inclusive of right-sizing CAMFT’s headquarters to a new office space while investing the building sale net proceeds.
I had the pleasure of seeing many of you last Friday at the New Year, New Law and Ethics workshop presented by Luke Martin. The post event reception also provided a great opportunity for our MFT community to connect. I hope you enjoyed the event as much as I did. In case you missed it, you can view the workshop in our On-Demand Learning Library. The Board of Directors meeting the next two days were also meaningful and productive. Look for our Board Highlights in next month’s E-Newsletter.
Volunteer Board work is so important to CAMFT’s mission and momentum. I’m excited that we are embarking on a new election cycle and heartened that we had an unprecedented number of applicants this year. All open Board positions for the 2024 – 2025 cycle are contested, which speaks to the strength of our association’s volunteer contingent. The Board Nominees for 2024 – 2025 can be found here. I look forward to seeing the candidates’ statements and want to thank everyone for their dedication to CAMFT and the election process.
The CAMFT Staff Attorneys have done an amazing job this year disseminating complicated, ever-changing information about Medicare to our member base through webinars and helpful resources in the Medicare Corner. Don’t forget that you must either opt in or opt out of Medicare, and there are particular steps you’ll need to take either way. When you get a chance, fill out our Medicare Survey to tell us what you decided.
Our advocacy team is also asking those of you who are interested in working for the Veterans Administration to fill out our short VA Survey as well.
Also, don’t forget that the Annual Conference will be held on May 3-4, 2024 at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott. Be sure to save the date!
Finally, as the year comes to a close, I ask that you consider contributing to the CAMFT PAC (Political Action Committee). Donations to the PAC go towards electing candidates who have a record of supporting issues most important to MFTs. Donors at $10 or more are acknowledged annually in an issue of The Therapist magazine as a way of expressing our gratitude.
Thank you to all for the many ways you support CAMFT, yielding a successful 2023. May the coming year bring joy and good health to you and your loved ones.
With care, Joy Alafia, MBA, CAE Executive Director
