Dear Members,
It is hard to write a newsletter column today. I’m sitting here struggling for the right words as I see so many people in pain. People are angry enough to risk exposure to COVID-19 to protest police violence. On top of that, some are being met with tear gas and rubber bullets.
My heart goes out to MFTs of color, particularly Black American MFTs. It’s hard to get back to work when the stresses of everyday life are so high and our communities are suffering. I want to check in with you. How are you holding up? I’ll admit, I was having a tough time last week. It is so important to make time for self-care.
CAMFT published a statement on Saturday, May 30th disavowing racial injustice. We also encourage you as MFTs to directly address race, socialized injustice, and violence in the clinical hour, given the potential impact on your clients, particularly ethnic minority clients.
In the midst of all this, we are still dealing with a global pandemic. CAMFT has been getting a lot of calls about re-opening offices. We have a section within our COVID-19 Resources page titled Building Your Back-to-Business Plan, and I’ve recorded this video to talk through some important considerations to think about before re-opening.
Wishing everyone health and wellness during this challenging time. Nabil El-Ghoroury, Ph.D., CAE Executive Director nel-ghoroury@camft.org | Twitter: @drnabil

The CAMFT Certified Supervisor Program (CSP) goes above and beyond the BBS Requirements for Supervision. The skills needed to be an effective supervisor are different from the skills needed to be an effective clinician. The CAMFT Certified Supervisor Program provides the training you need to be fully prepared to guide clinicians-in-training. As a CAMFT Certified Supervisor, you have the opportunity to be recognized by potential supervisees and employers for your advanced training, and as a CAMFT member, you receive a discount when completing the program!
